It's very much a confidence, belief in yourself and of course putting in a lot of hard work. What I was hoping more of is specifically what the training involved. How many hours a day, what is a typical practice session like, what kind of drills do they do, how does the training differ from one player to another, what is an example of the blueprint a player would do during practice turning a tournament vs. between tournament,,,, these things were not brought up much and would to me be very interesting
As a tennis coach I did find Patrick's book Very inspiring as he touches an inner thoughts and tough decissions coach has to do in a Very difficult environment of professional tennis. Another aspekt is that Patrick did not play professionally himself and in his book he shares his journey of making himself a coach and man he is now. That makes his book completely different from autobiographies of ex players and tennis legends. I guess for tennis fan this book can reveal what goes into making of a tennis player.
It reminded me of Sun Tzu The Art of War. when I was a young Soldier I read it to have better leadership skills it was a well read translation and filled with just practical advice and how to handle human emotions. This book does the same for tennis and I have read them all. I found myself rereading pages of the book to my junior player who also loved the advice. Great book!
I was very disappointed because while the book was published in 2017, the story ends January 2016! I understand that it was translated from an older French edition, but the author, whom I respect enormously, could have written an epilogue updating it until Serena's win in January 2017.
I enjoyed the book. But, the translation to English should have been proof read by the Publisher.
The coach was an excellent read and I would highly recommend it to not just tennis players but all athletes in general.
